Split Fiction on PlayStation 5

Co-op games are few and far between, and good ones are even more rare. Following It Takes Two’s Game of the Year win in 2021, and now the release of Split Fiction, Hazelight Games has become the master, making by far and away the best co-op games you can hope to play in 2025.

Another Genre Switch

Split Fiction is another genre switch. The studio has tried its hand at prison break drama and emotional kids’ story come to life, but this time you can jump into two worlds: high fantasy and sci-fi action.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape One on PlayStation 5

I’m a big fan of the Life Is Strange games, but I’ve craved a new narrative adventure series from DontNod for a while now. Something original, yet still features the mix of emotion and nostalgia the studio’s games are known for.

Cue the release of the first entry in the Lost Records series, focusing on a group of teenage girls and telling a story that switches back and forth between the summer of 1995 and the modern day. You play as Swann, a socially awkward 16-year-old struggling to meet new friends. She finds it hard to manage both the excitement and stress that comes with trying to make and maintain friendships in your mid-teens.

Astro Bot on PlayStation 5

It was always a shame that Astro Bot Rescue Mission was stuck on PSVR. While the virtual reality perspective was unique, it was always a game I felt could work just as well on standard consoles. When Astro Bot was revealed, my main emotion was a sense of relief that more PlayStation fans would be able to play what is an extremely inventive platformer.

Astro Bot on PlayStation 5 follows a similar structure to Rescue Mission. As the cute little hero, you head out to planets to save lost bots and find puzzle pieces. However, this time, the main aim is to recover the stolen mothership parts (elements of a PS5) from the alien who attacked you at the start of the game.

Since its reveal, I’ve been both sceptical and excited to play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Machine Games has a phenomenal track record, but I couldn’t help but think Indy’s movements looked clunky in recent trailers.

Having seen an extended section of the game, and heard from Game Director Jerk Gustafsson and Creative Director Axel Torvenius, some of those concerns remain, but The Great Circle surprised me in its scope and how impressive it is in its variety and presentation.

I always find it hard to preview EA FC games, just as I did the FIFA games of old. This week, I had hands-on time with FC 25, getting the chance to check out the basic offline gameplay of this year’s game.

Every year, it takes weeks to get a complete sense of how an EA Sports football game plays on the pitch. As players learn the balance of mechanics, what tactics are powerful, and which players are the best, we are able to form full opinions.

TopSpin 2K25 on PlayStation 5

It’s been 13 years since the last TopSpin game and the last mainline Virtua Tennis game released. Now, in 2024, one of the high-profile tennis series is making a comeback.

Developed by Hangar 13, who made Mafia III and the upgraded version of the first game in that series, TopSpin 2K25 is a little bit of a departure for them. On the court, tennis games have come a long way in the last decade. Away from it, though, 2K25 isn’t much of an evolution.

Dead Cells is one of my favourite games of the last ten years. The combination of challenging, fast-paced action with rewarding progression grabbed me like few roguelikes do (nothing beats Hades, however). 

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is also one of my favourite games of 2024, providing a fresh start for the iconic series and some wonderful puzzle-platforming action. So getting the chance to play a side-scrolling Prince of Persia roguelike from the developers of Dead Cells was something I couldn’t be more excited for. My 30 minutes of playtime wasn’t enough to get a full taste of the game, but it certainly has the potential to be another high point in the series.

Video game TV show adaptations are coming thick and fast now. With a quirky tone and easily distinguishable world, Fallout has long been the perfect candidate for one.

Set 219 years after the apocalypse was set in motion, nine years after the event of Fallout 4, Season One’s story primarily follows Lucy, an inhabitant of Vault 33 who ventures to the surface for the first time in an attempt to rescue her Dad from raiders who captured him.

Open Roads on PlayStation 5

As someone who calls Gone Home one of his favourite games of all time, I’ve been excited for Fullbright’s next game, Open Roads, ever since its reveal at The Game Awards in 2020.

With performances from Kaitlyn Dever and Keri Russell as Tess and Opal, the story follows a mother and daughter in her mid-teens as they get ready to move following the death of their mother/grandmother.

2024 has been a year full of survival games and surprise hits. While Palworld falls into both categories, Nightingale, Enshrouded, and Helldivers 2 are all one or the other.

And this isn’t the end of the year’s interesting survival game releases – not even close. We saw Light No Fire revealed a few weeks ago, which is the follow-up to Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky, but another title has caught our eye.

EA FC 24 isn’t a stranger to a bug or a glitch. If anyone saw the strangeness that happened the evening Team of the Year was released, you missed out, but the game has never turned into an old game before.

Today, however, that has changed, as Squad Battles has turned into FIFA 17 out of nowhere. Most of the mode is how it should be, and the gameplay hasn’t been altered, but something is wrong.

As I’m sure it is for many others, WWE is pure nostalgia for me. My era was the height of John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, and the like in the mid to late-2000s. 

I played the wrestling games during those years, but have only paid irregular attention to the sport since. That hasn’t stopped me getting goosebumps at the likes of Edge returning at Royal Rumble in 2020, wishing I was still up to date with the week to week drama.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PlayStation 5

It’s only been three and a half years since The Last of Us Part II’s release on PlayStation 4, but now may be the perfect time for a remaster to be released.

Kaitlyn Dever has just been cast as Abby in Season Two of HBO’s show, so the story is at the front of everyone’s minds as it enters production.

2023 has been an unbelievable year for new game releases. From the early weeks, right through until December, a must play game has released almost every couple of weeks. I can’t remember a year in which so many games were in the running for Twinfinite’s annual Game of the Year award.

Season 2 of Warzone and Black Ops Cold War began yesterday after what seemed like the longest season yet. Stim glitches and the DMR meta made for a few horrible weeks, so it’s nice to have somewhat of a reset come to Call of Duty’s massive battle royale.

No, it’s not the all-new map that Warzone desperately needs and has needed for months at this point, but it’s something new at least.

During a brand new trailer that was shown as part of today’s State of Play showcase, the release date of Ember Lab’s Kena: Bridge of Spirits was revealed.

The game, which was initially revealed during the PlayStation 5 reveal event, was due to come out during the first quarter of 2021 (and late last year before then), but is now set to release on Aug. 24, 2021.

Following rumors circling this week, EA Sports has confirmed that a never before seen FIFA promo, What If, will arrive in FIFA 21 at the end of this week.

While unsubstantiated rumors have flown around all week, it was leaked via the Xbox Store as part of an advertisement earlier today, and now the game’s creators have revealed that a new promo is starting on Friday.

As the Season 2 update for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone approaches, Treyarch has released a trailer for the new Zombies mode, Outbreak.

Outbreak is a free addition to Zombies that will be playable in Black Ops Cold War. Unlike the original map and the recently released Firebase Z, it’s a large scale experience that features vehicles and an increased focus on exploration. The official description of the mode reads:

Mediatonic has revealed a partnership with Studio MDHR which will see Cuphead themed costumes coming to Fall Guys later this week.

Cuphead and Mugman costumes will arrive on Wednesday and Saturday respectively and you’ll need crowns to unlock them. The top and bottom sections of each character’s skin will cost five crowns each, so you’ll need ten to complete one character and 20 to get both Cuphead themed costumes. You can see the two skins in the screenshot at the top of the page.

With it due to start next week, Activision has revealed everything that players can expect from Black Ops Cold War and Warzone in Season 2.

Some of the content will be shared between games, but Cold War will be getting more than the battle royale. We’ll start with what you can expect form the more recent Call of Duty title.
